Right, yes, I have updated my theme. As it will be a while before I get the chance to update my portfolio (paying work takes precedent unfortunately), I’m using this temporary theme for now.

<del datetime="2009-01-13T22:21:20+00:00">Right now, Grid-a-Licious has many problems, nearly all of them stemming from its awful coding. This I will be sorting over the next few days, then making a few graphical tweaks of my own to it.

But for now, see this as an attempt for me to get back into blogging again. And please God, if you know how to code, don’t look at the HTML. It’ll make your eyes go deaf and your ears go blind.
</del>
EDIT: The coding was much worse than I originally thought. Avoid Grid-a-Licious like the plague.

As you may have noticed, I’ve been trying to put off writing my thoughts about Quantum of Solace for quite some time. There’s one extremely simple reason for this: I honestly don’t know if I’m alone when I say it really wasn’t that good.

It’s certainly not the action scenes that make this film average though. QOS is absolutely busting with some of the best (and most painful-looking) action sequences I’ve seen in any recent film, and when you throw in the fact that a lot of the stunts were done by Daniel Craig (and thus meaning there’s less long shots to hide the stuntman’s face), the action bits of QOS are gritty, real, and downright stunning. In fact, they’ve spent so much time making all these amazing action scenes that they seemed to forgot to write a story.

QOS started production in January without a story, and it most definitely shows. Although Bond films are almost notorious for their lack of any real story meat to their action pie, Casino Royale showed the world that a Bond film can have a good, solid story alongside amazing action sequences. Unfortunately, that skill isn’t on display here, and it’s ultimately the almost complete and utter lack of a story that lets it down.

Some people have spoken about how the story is confusing in QOS, but with a story about as complex as a Spot The Dog book and of similar length to boot (this is apparently the shortest Bond film ever made), you could be forgiven for using the “I don’t understand it” excuse because it must be you that’s wrong. There really must be something more to this film.

That’s what I said after sitting through Quantum Of Solace too. But then I sat back for a few minutes, thought, and then said:

“That really didn’t have a story did it?”

Maybe I was expecting too much. Don’t get me wrong though – Quantum of Solace is still an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride with very few boring bits. It just feels a bit too much like someone made a series of fancy action sequences, then forgot to put the story bits in.

Close, but no Casino Royale.

I’ve decided that I’m probably not going to blog on a weekend anymore.

If I keep my promise to blog every day during the week, I think it’s fair to give myself the weekend off.

In Craig’s Weekend News this week, I went to see The Mighty Boosh at Wakefield Royal Theatre on Saturday night. I can report: they were fantastic. I’ve seen every episode of The Mighty Boosh, but you can’t quite beat seeing them in front of you, in the flesh. There wasn’t much of a story to their live show (just like the series then), but it was a great experience just to see them live. And because Wakefield Theatre is so small, when we were sat 5 rows from the front in the bottom stalls, we were really close.

I won’t tell you much more about it, just in case you’ve managed to book tickets for their rapidly selling out tour. But it was great, and it won’t disappoint any fans.

Whoops, I appear to have completely missed yesterday’s update. It wasn’t intentional; I actually did think about what I would write yesterday, but then it completely slipped my mind after getting caught up with several things as per usual.

It’s nice sitting down again and reflecting for 10 minutes when I get the chance, and it’s all served to highlight exactly how ridiculously busy I usually am. Once again, it’s 10pm and I’ve only just wrapped up doing work. I literally do sit at a PC nearly all day during the week, from 9 in the morning until 10 at night, with a few hours in between for eating, gyming, and whatever else I do.

This week I’m extra busy, as I scuttle furiously to get a damn website finished before the end of the week. I’ve got 2 super-secret projects I want to get live and on the Internet, and about 10 other pipe dream websites that I’ll probably never get around to doing.

However, at least my portfolio is finally filling up with some work I’m proud of. It just means I’m getting less and less time to do some fun stuff.

Seeing as though I posted TWICE (first time in what feels like forever) in one day yesterday, I really wasn’t going to bother with posting anything today. Especially seeing as though I’ve just stopped working in the last 10 minutes (actually, I’m still at it, but a slower pace), making me very reluctant to type anything.

However, I thought I have to get back into the habit of writing every day again, so even if I can take 10 minutes out to write rambling bullshit like this, it’s beginning to get my brain back into the habit of thinking about good things to write on my blog.

I went to see Death Proof and Tropic Thunder at the weekend, so I’ll be writing a review of these two some time during the week. I just bought Metallica’s fantastic new album Death Magnetic too, so I’ll probably write up a few words about that too.

In the meantime, I’ll try to think of more interesting stuff to write.

Now, I really like writing. Also, I especially like writing a blog. However, there’s a problem with writing a blog: when you stop writing it, it’s painfully obvious that you’re being a bit lazy.

Which leads me to my current situations. I’ve been blogging sporadically for a few months now, and it’s been a long time since I used to blog every day. Saying that I’m busy isn’t really an excuse, because I’ve always been busy. I’m extremely busy right now – probably more so than ever – but if I think about it, I could fit a little blog in every day if I really tried.

In fact, when I used to be busy before I used to write The Last every week and keep up with my blog too, so being busy certainly isn’t an excuse. So, it’s time to man up.

As of today, I’m going to start trying to write a blog every day again. I’ve still got to transfer my blog over to the other thing I’m wanting to use yet, but I’ll be updating a blog every day from now on.

So yeah. Join me tomorrow.
