Electric

General on 16/08/08

We haven’t had any electric pumping through our house since 4pm yesterday. And it’s about at this point where you realise just exactly how much you rely on it.

It’s around these times you realise just how cushy we have it in our country. In Zambia, their electricity goes down approximately 4 times a day. We’re lucky really that in typical times we have a constant supply of electricity that is nearly always available to us. But we do take this kind of thing for granted that it’s always going to be there, a fact I’ve become immensely aware of over the past 24 hours of having no electricity whatsoever.

In some ways it’s a scary way to live, to rely so completely and utterly on services that might not always be available to us.
