It’s sexier in real life.

Yesterday – after deliberating for about a month – I decided to take the plunge. I didn’t need a new Mp3 player, but this particular one has caught my eye in such a dramatic way that I knew I just had to have one. So, is it any good? Let’s just say it’s the future.

Let’s get the point on everybody’s mind out of the way first; this isn’t an iPhone without the phone features. Nor is it just a standard multimedia player. The iPod Touch is stuck between both – it plays videos and music, but you can view the Internet on it (more or that later) and you can browse Youtube. Think of it as a multimedia player with a few extras.

To say they’re extras would probably be doing the Safari browser and the Youtube viewer an injustice. I’ve used many mobile browsers over the years on many different mobile phones and consoles (the DS browser sticks out as one of the worst), and this is by far the first one I’ve used that I absolutely adore. The subtle simplicity of it coupled with the fact that most websites look identical to how they do on a fully-fledged web browser makes this one of the best portable Internet experiences you’re ever likely to have.

It’s difficult to emphasise the size, but it’s SMALL.

And then there’s that gorgeous touch screen. Forget about getting finger prints on it, and marvel at how easy it is to use. The portable OS that Apple have developed for the Touch is another work of genius, and even if you’ve got fingers bigger than bananas (unlikely I know) you’ll find it a dream to use. Icons fly in and out, things swoosh and spin, and everything just looks amazing. It really is hard to find any kind of fault with the interface, and it is a genuine revolution in the way we use our mp3 players.

Inevitably, there’s minor gripes. Why is there an ugly great big black corner on the back of it? Why is the back of the Touch stupid shiny metal that gets fingerprints all over it quicker than an open car with a Rolex inside it? The iPhone had a gorgeous matt finish in the reverse of that, so why not here?

You may have noticed that I’ve yet to talk about how music actually plays. Well, it sounds amazing if that’s what you mean. The videos look amazing. They look and sound exactly how you’d expect them to, but that’s not really why you’d buy an iPod Touch.

You’ll buy an iPod Touch because you know this is the future. You’ll know that what you’re holding in your hands is only the start of something a lot bigger, and a lot greater. This isn’t an iPhone. This isn’t an Mp3 player.

This is what all multimedia players should be.

// A perfect 10 outta 10.

I was going to write about this too and I have to say, there’s pretty much no difference between your feelings and min about Apple’s latest marvel!

Agreed with all the above, almost makes me want to splash out, ALMOST.
I see a new feature starting though, Spot the Bear alongside your Typography games.
