GMail’s bin used to be called Trash. So why rename it to Bin?

I’ve just noticed that Google Mail have renamed their place where deleted things go – from Trash to Bin. Is this a sign of the English people taking over the awful American spelling?

I sure hope so, but I have other theories too.

Someone swapped all of the Google’s dictionaries to Oxford English ones.
Yes, this is ridiculously over the top – not to mention utterly pointless – but Americans do some silly things. Like voting in half-witted presidents with silly surnames for example. I wouldn’t put it past some of them to think it would be a nice post-Christmas joke to play on people, but I doubt the laughs were worth the effort.

The word ‘trash’ has been trademarked by Microsoft.
This one really wouldn’t surprise me, seeing as though they like to trademark everything else. I hope Microsoft have trademarked the word ‘trash’, then I will be restricted to seeing the word only on Microsoft software, which thankfully I don’t spend much time with.

They’ve just decided to change the word.
Yes, this is unfortunately the most likely, however boring it is. Someone at Google has probably just decided to change the word, and they went ahead and changed it.

But still, it’s nice to use my imagination to pointless ends sometimes.
